Dear Ross,
The majority of people in America today believe this country is
in trouble. They also believe that if our existing institutions
are not working to serve the people effectively, they should be
eliminated or restructured. The public expect jobs, fair market
pricing, affordable housing, reasonable access to medical care
and more importantly, a future for our children. We are willing
to work hard, pay taxes, live and let live. Unfortunately for
most, the american dream is evaporating rapidly. We seem to be
constantly victimized by greed, mis-management and the continual
poor vision of our leaders. Skillful politicians sold us the
idea that every situation could be a win win for everyone. We
have learned a hard lesson. We now know everyone has to lose
a little sometime. Bills have to be paid.
The masses of people in this country are now, more than ever
before, painfully aware that almost all of our daily lives are
set and choreographered for us by people who represent less than
five percent of the population. The so called "wealthy
intelligentsia". They control what we read, what we see on TV,
what we eat, where we go, what we do for entertainment. The list
goes on. Ross, you are part of that influential minority (with
the power to help change things); and, you claimed in 92, the
desire to lead if we gave you our support.
I guess this is what caught our attention. You seemed to be part
of the problem, and yet, in 1992, the only possible cure. You
originally appeared to step away from your piers and embark on a
message of rebirth and change. You seemed to champion the cause
for restoring government to the people, giving us control and
choice in our lives again. Ross, what happened?
You are back again with the same message, but why should we
believe you? The last time, you abandoned us at the eleventh
hour with excuses that to this day make no sense to anyone.
First, you feared splitting the country by throwing the election
into the house of representatives. Did you ever think this might
have been a necessary evil to convince the remainder of our
elected officials we desire change? Next, you claimed fear for
the safety of your family. How could anyone argue with this?
Excepting that you are too smart not to have know the dangers
that existed way up front, and take appropriate precautions. No,
unfortunately the appearance is, you were bought, chickened out
or simply realized you made a mistake. Ross, tell us the truth.
Your message today is all too familiar. You claim to now want to
lead reform through your political action group. You want our
financial support. We hear of you everywhere, on TV, the radio,
the press and in Washington. This could be good. But, you are
offering no solutions. Your rhetoric is the same, "clean out the
barn!", but you offer no methods. Ok, you now have the attention
of a lot of politicians. But, without more core support, how
long will it last and how much good will it really accomplish?
You need more than 19 million voters. You need the rest of us.
We are here, looking for reasons, signals or more importantly,
explanations and programs that make sense. Burn me once and I
learn a lesson, burn me twice and shame on me. You got my vote
in 92, but, it will take more than talk and charts in 96.
